Introducing the artists scheduled to appear

[Guest Live]

・Axe Ono + Ogata Koji DUO @ September 13th (Sat)
■ INTRODUCE: Ono, who is based in Fukuoka, is full of warmth and sharp springiness, and his thick, bowed melodic playing is extremely rich, while his thick bass gives off a reliable yet rich charm. His duo with Ogata, who plays piano and projects melancholy with a neat, fine, and refreshing touch, is fresh and sparkling, immersing you in a pleasant sound space that is both extremely straightforward hard bop and somewhat warm and humane. He will release his first album as a leader, "Honto no Kimochi," in 2024.

・Hajime Kobayashi @ September 14th (Sunday)
■ INTRODUCE: Kobayashi, known for his collaborations with Gen Hoshino, Ansari, and many other musicians, is a unique pianist who exudes both gentleness and strength, and is able to sound with any performer, from old-school jazz piano using stride techniques to modern piano. He released his first solo piano album, "SWING EASY?", in August 2008.

[Jazz Record DJ]

・DJ Hiroomi Kuhara
■ PROFILE: He started his career as a hip-hop DJ in the early 2000s. He ended up falling in love with the original material and started collecting soul and jazz records. After that, he participated in prestigious soul and crossover events for many years. Before he knew it, he was in his 40s and had a decent career. He wanted to do something new. He was an adult, so he wanted to make a name for himself. Jazz was the answer. But there was no place to listen to it at full volume! Okay, let's make one. So in 2018, he started the live band + DJ event "&JAZZ" at Keith Flack. His signature band, Fukuoka Jazz Collective, is scheduled to perform at Nakasu Jazz 2025.

・ DJ Atsushi Ooshita
■ PROFILE: Began his musical career in 1998. Based in Fukuoka City, he has extensive experience playing both domestically and internationally. With a wide range of free-spirited and artistic music selections, he is always searching for stimulating sounds and is skilled at creating genre-defying rollercoaster-like mixes that combine his vast collection of new releases with his own carefully selected older releases. He uses analog rotary mixers manufactured by E&S and ALPHA RECORDING SYSTEM. He is a regular at HANGOVER's "VINYL LOVE" and a crew member at "Chihaya Social Musica Club".

・ YUD
■ PROFILE: Started his career in 2022. As a teenager, he was passionate about rock and spent his days playing drums as a member of a band. However, his musical curiosity did not stop there, and he now works as a DJ, delivering jazz and soul music with love in an all-vinyl style. Inspired by the many top domestic DJs he performs with, he himself strives to create unique and one-of-a-kind music. He is the organizer of "We JIVE!", a community that allows people to freely enjoy modern jazz, both old and new. He is also a member of SOUL ALIVE.

・Tommy-G
■ PROFILE: Captivated by the deep charm of Showa-era pop music from the time he was old enough to understand, he embarked on a thorny path in the world of pop music after learning about the work of his predecessors, including the "Legendary Masterpiece Liberation Alliance." He began selecting songs using the records he collected while still in high school, and at the same time, he also became passionate about researching the history of postwar Fukuoka music. Recently, he has formed "Mel Tomita and the New Daimyo Quarters (NDQ)," a band that updates the box vans of the past for the Reiwa era, and is active as the main vocalist. Born in Fukuoka on March 29, 2000.

・Tomoyasu Fujita
■ PROFILE: Since 1984, he has operated music bars "Fee Fi Fo Fum" and "opium" in Fukuoka, as well as shops such as "charmin" which stocks vintage clothing and miscellaneous goods, and currently runs the cafe-style select shop "poppee de son/maribron" in Imaizumi, and "KIKUNOKI", an atelier renovated from an old house in Minamikan, Kumamoto. He is a living encyclopedia who has led the Fukuoka culture scene.

・22nd Century Jazz
■ PROFILE: Although he was familiar with musical instruments from an early age, he lost hearing in his left ear due to illness. After rehabilitation, he won the gold medal in the vocal category at the Fukuoka Prefectural High School Music Competition. He gave up on his musical career after his mother passed away. He moved from Kitakyushu to Fukuoka City to continue his studies and find employment. He performed at festivals across Kyushu as a band and DJ. He then became devoted to jazz. With the concept of "22nd Century Jazz," he is active in a wide range of fields, from the streets to social media, focusing on analog records, in order to pass it on to the next century and his grandchildren's generations. Born just before the Showa era.

[Messages and comments from performers]

■from Hiroomi Kuhara
...It's a common story how I first fell in love with music, but it all started when I listened to my father's Latin jazz CDs without asking him. I was probably around 13 years old. Then, by chance, I came across a late-night jazz program on the radio, and even though I was young, I felt the power and coolness of jazz. Then, around that time, the anime "Cowboy Bebop" started airing. I fell in love with it instantly.
Jazz is played in a variety of settings, such as izakayas, bars, and hotels. I have a lot of opportunities to come into contact with it on a daily basis. It's probably the genre I've listened to the most. But I've never grown to like it and gone to hear a live band or listened to it in a club. It's strange, isn't it? Even though it's such a wonderful genre.
There are many great jazz bands and DJs in Fukuoka. However, they rarely get the limelight. I think there are many reasons for this, such as it being difficult to understand, it being intimidating, and it being hard to get into. I hope to overcome these obstacles with my many years of DJ experience and allow everyone to experience this wonderful world of jazz.

■From Atsushi Ooshita
This event will focus on Nakasu Jazz, and we hope that you will experience the essential elements of jazz - improvisation and harmony, innovation and dynamics - and the idea that "jazz is freedom" through records. We hope you will take a dizzying journey of improvisation through the selection of songs, and enjoy the healing effects of being bathed in sound.

■From 22nd Century Jazz
Let's imagine the future of jazz and music. What is something that will never be replaced by AI or robots? I think the answer is "handmade" and "analog." I am selecting records that have been discarded during decluttering, and many great songs and performances that have been buried in subscription services, in order to recreate them in everyday life as the popular entertainment they were meant to be.
At the same time last year, I had the opportunity to DJ at this CANVAS LOUNGE, featuring Blue Note records. A wonderful jazz event was also held the day before. This year, in 2025, we proposed a joint event. In addition to Fukuoka's leading jazz and vinyl record DJs, we will also be hosting special live guest performances over two days.
The venue is indoors, so you don't have to worry about the weather, and the luxurious atmosphere is perfect for jazz. And, of course, the most distinctive feature of CANVAS LOUNGE is the majestic Steinway Model D. Apparently, even Thelonious Monk once played it when he came to Fukuoka. Look forward to Canvas Jazz Days 2025, a special two-day experience you can only have here!
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who cooperated and worked hard to make this event a reality.
